Should I Do a First Look?

Almost every couple I speak with is stumped on the decision of whether to do a First Look or not, so I thought I would offer some tips on how it can be helpful for you!

(side note- if anyone reading this is like- wait! What the heck is a First Look? It is when a couple decides to see each other before the ceremony.)

Anxiety Level-

Even the most planned out wedding days might have a level of anxiety/nervousness- and it can really help you to relax when you aren’t waiting to see each other for the first time as you walk down the aisle.

Timing-

Doing a First Look can be so helpful when planning the timeline to your day. You get the majority of family photos and bridal party photos done BEFORE the ceremony! Most of my couples LOVE knowing that I won’t need to pull them away from family and friends during cocktail hour in order to knock out the family photo list.

Eating-

Usually, cocktail hour is partly used to give your wedding guests something to do/food to eat while they are waiting for family photos to get taken before the reception party starts. If you do a First Look and complete those photos before the ceremony, YOU get to eat and mingle, too (or heck, grab some food and then hide away for a moment!!)

A true moment alone-

Most weddings are full of family and friends, and they all want to spend as much time as possible celebrating with you. This also means that forgoing a First Look means you might not get much alone time together. I love to be there to photograph the first initial moments of excitement during a First Look, and then step away to give you a true moment alone to hug, cry, laugh, and BREATH!

And in case you are wondering what a First Look really looks like “in action”- here are a few of my clients that opted for one on their wedding day!

Emily + Michael at Riverfront (across the street from their venue Copain )

Kelsey + Brett at Annadel Estate Winery

Stephanie + Clement at Mountain House Estate

Marisa + Brandon at Ru’s Farm

Lilianna + Manan at Sbragia Family Vineyards

And for good measure- it’s always sweet when the bride adds a First Look with her Dad - Briana + her Dad at Garden Valley Ranch
